Our teams are carrying out extensive track renewal works on the railway line between Olen and Geel. This project is part of the structural renewal of the railway infrastructure and aims to guarantee the reliability, safety and service life of the track in a sustainable manner.

The works involve the complete renewal of the track structure. Specifically, the existing rails and sleepers are dismantled and removed, after which the ballast is mechanically excavated and renewed. The foundation is re-profiled and compacted to ensure a stable substructure. Our teams will then install new concrete sleepers and mount and secure new rails. The rails will be joined together into continuous welded tracks using aluminothermic welding, which contributes to increased stability, improved ride comfort and a longer service life for the infrastructure.

After installation, a crucial phase of geometric measurement and alignment follows. Using specialised measuring equipment, the track is precisely adjusted in terms of direction, height and cant. Strict tolerances are applied in accordance with the applicable technical standards. For the execution, we use specialised work trains and powerful rail cranes, tailored to high production capacity and maximum precision.

An important feature of this project is the speed of execution within limited service interruptions. On average, we renew approximately 1 kilometre of track per weekend. This achievement requires meticulous technical preparation, thorough planning and tight logistical organisation. Material flows, machine planning and personnel deployment are coordinated in detail in advance so that each phase connects seamlessly to the next. Within the specified outage, dismantling, renewal, alignment and release of the track must be completed in full.

The work mainly takes place during night and weekend shifts to limit the impact on train traffic. This increases the operational complexity and requires a high degree of discipline, concentration and flexibility from our teams. Safety is always paramount, with strict adherence to procedures and continuous coordination on and around the site.

With the track renewal on line 15 Olen-Geel, we are demonstrating our ability to carry out large-scale and technically complex projects efficiently, safely and within tight time frames. The result is a sustainable rail infrastructure that is ready for intensive long-term use.
